The Normal Christian Life – Is It Possible?

The normal Christian life is an all-encompassing love relationship with the Master, and a principle-driven love relationship with the Church. The Christian life is all about dying to self and living for God, and learning to reach to others as we grow together in community. Ashish Joy pens this article from his soul asserting with confidence that the normal Christian life is entirely livable... with a contagious compassion that reaches out to people in our communities, cities, regions and nations.

Aftermath of the Unexplainable

In a moment of distain and avid frustration i removed all posts from my blog, i'm over it now... unfortunately i have this extra X chromosome that causes me to make such rash decisions... now, before i lost my head: 1. i went to nav's birthday party, now 21..... and omgness are we getting old fast, i had more fun there than i've had in a while, the details of the night are hidden within a top secret portfolio guarded on a high security sight, exposure to the details may result in grave repercussions administered by parentals on myself and…

Life Cut Short?

Last week, I attended the funeral service of Semy Sebastian, a 24 year old young man in Chicago. I did not know him personally, but knew young people who knew him. He is from the Indian catholic community and had many friends in Indian churches/Asian community in Chicago. The service was a moving time. I feel deeply when young people die. For people who hold so much promise and their life is unexpectedly cut short, you are left with many unanswered questions. It also brought to mind my own brush with death and my dramatic encounter with Jesus Christ -…

Encounter with Jesus that Changed My Life

This is a real story of God literally saving me from death. At seventeen years of age, I had nothing left to live for and I tried to hang myself. It's a miracle that I am alive today in perfect health. During the time I was unconscious, I can boldly say I met Jesus. I know it sounds a little out of the ordinary, but this only means we don't serve an ordinary God. I remember waking up and being shocked that there is life after death. I feared the worst. Will He send me to hell?   Read on as Indu shares about her near-death experience and how she met Jesus.

Fanaa…Hindi Movie Review

I don't usually write about movies, let alone Hindi movies...but hey, we can all try something new once in a while eh? So I downloaded this movie (without subtitles) some time ago and have now watched it about three times. It does take a stretch of the imagination but which Hindi movie doesn't? The story is one of a blind girl, Zooni (Kajol) falling in love with undercover Kashmiri freedom fighter, Rehaan (Aamir Khan). First of all, Kajol and Aamir Khan are my two favourite actors in Hindi cinema. I loved Aamir Khan in Rang de Basanti and he was…

Growing Inter-Racial Marriages

Indians in America have many unique distinctions. The highest levels of inter-racial marriages of any ethnic community might not be obvious to many. According to US census 2000, 12% (220K out of 1.9M) of Indians listed themselves as Indian and one other racial group. This is 5 times more than the national average. Nationwide only 2.5% whites, 4.8% blacks falls into multiracial families. Although total numbers are low (because of relatively smaller population), the Indian community is breaking the boundaries of caste, color, religion and race to explore new forays of bicultural and biracial existence. Coconut generation are much more…

Rebirthing a Vision

When God gives you a dream, you can be sure that He'll bring it to pass no matter how impossible it may seem. You see, when I was younger, God gave me a dream, a vision. As I got older and started thinking about college and career, circumstances were such that, out of frustration and discouragement, I buried the vision, locked it away and threw out the key. The vision seemed too large and seemingly impossible. Since that time, I have been living with no real long term goals. However, with some heaven-inspired prompting from a man of God whom…

I'm Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired.

Sometimes, in our lives, we need to make a stand. A statement that gives meaning to our very existence. A place where we say we're not moving no matter what happens. I'm sick and tired of giving in to the patterns of this dying world. I'm sick and tired of trying so hard to achieve things that don't matter. I'm sick and tired, and sick and tired, and I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. Sometimes something happens to change your life. That something broke in me. Actually, it broke me. I layed on the floor a shattered…

20 Big Lies in the Da Vinci Code

20 Big Lies in the Da Vinci Code - by James A. BeverleyDon't be fooled. Here are just a few ways Dan Brown's best-selling book twists and distorts the truth of the gospel. It has also become the subject of intense debate among Christians because of its radical claims that undermine basic Christianity. Why all the fuss over a work of fiction? [*fiction is an invented story] The answer lies on Page 1, where author Dan Brown asserts that "all descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals in this novel are accurate." In reality, the novel is a model…

The Sky Ain't Blue

1. will someone please explain to me why a bunch of ladies can get together to pray and have tea and cake until midnight, and when their grown, adult children want to hang out, 9pm becomes the curfew??? 2. i think the whole "overprotective-ness" deal is really just about a power trip. seriously, when a parent starts to feel like they're losing control, or the kid's starting to make some of their own decisions, they suddenly feel the need to reinstate their authority. i understand and prefer this during childhood, and usually even the teen years, however, i think that…

In Pursuit Of . . .

Okay, so i was having a pretty bad day. Was. Past tense. Ever since i came back from Darwin, i've been in the pursuit of happiness. Whatever made me happy, i indulged in. I told myself when i was there that that was what i was going to do. Like i said in my earlier blog, i had been miserable for the last 2 years that it started to become normal for me to be miserable. You just start to think that thats a part of who you are, being miserable. But when i was in Darwin, i was happy.…

Jesus, Please Don't Pass Me By . . .

The sun charges up the mountain of the sky. The morning train rumbles through the station. The eternal routines of life sets in. I need something new this morning. I can't pray. I don't need another ritual. My dehydrated heart sends desperate signals. Waves of worry. Hopelessness. Resentment. Irritability. I need a drink. This morning, my heart is troubled. I need answers. I'm flustered, disgruntled, and annoyed at anyone that gets in my way. "This isn't me," I tell myself. "I know I'm better than that." I know I need Him. But I can't pray. I need answers today. But…

Faith of the Emerging Generation

As a student of emerging generation, I was excited to read a new book "In search of Authentic Faith" by Steve Rabey. Subtitle describes the content very well - "how the emerging generation is changing the church." What is the bottomline message - There is no single right way to "do" church for the emerging generations. What worked in the past or what worked in another country or what works among your contempraries across town does not necessarily work for you. One size or form does not fit all. The current and traditional church aren't cutting it for the emerging generation…

God Changed My Life Through a Song

God is creative . . . Music is one of my greatest passions. I love Western and Carnatic music. Unfortunately, I don't play any instruments, but I enjoy singing. . . . God has now blessed me abundantly with a talent to create websites complete with music to listen to along with the latest news in the worldwide Tamil community. Read on as Malaysian Christian, Simon Shashi tells his story of how music, media and the internet has revolutionized his life.

What A Weekend!

1. Thursday there was an "indoor barbeque" at Nav's house. Tyna's chicken and potatoes were good. So was the bruchetta that Nav made. It was supposed to be a regular barbeque I think, but then it started to pour. We pretty much cooked, ate and played games. I wasn't going to go but Farah wouldn't take no for an answer. It was fun though. It would've been more fun if I wasn't in the "getting-a-cold-phase." 2. Saturday was mad busy! SACHI PowerPoint. SACHI [South Asian Christian Initiative] Picnic Permission forms. Kerala Fellowship: practice, worship, kids, Father's Day prep. Phone calls.…

Shirker in the Kingdom of God?

In Matthew 25: 14-30, Jesus told a parable about the talents to be used in His vineyard.   A man traveling to a far country called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.   He gave five talents to one, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability, and immediately he went on a journey.  But he who had received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.   Similarly, he who had received two gained two more also.   But he who had received one talent went and dug in the…
