Serving God's Purposes in Our Generation (Acts 13:36b)

Quarter of US Teen Girls Have STD

A shocking health report came out on US teenage girls from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). More than one fourth of them have some form of sexually transmitted disease! An estimated 3.2 million U.S. girls between the ages 14 and 19 (about 26 percent of that age group) have a sexually transmitted infection such as the human papillomavirus or HPV, chlamydia, genital herpes or trichomoniasis. See news report on Reuters, New York Times and US News. This is indicative of growing promiscuity among teens in the US. When teen pregnancy and abortion were on the decline, many thought teens are…

Living By the Spirit or Loafing In My Spirit?

Speaking in tongues! Hearing the inward voice of God! Giving a word of prophecy! Experiencing spectacular guidance! Doing wonders! Emotional ecstasy! This is what Spirit-led life is to many Christians. But is this what all walking in the Spirit is? While I am not against all these manifestations, however, I have to honestly admit of witnessing sheer carnality among many who emphasize on being led by the Spirit according to the description given above. In our era of ignorance about the right understanding of Spirit-led life we need God’s word to remind us about what it is to walk in…

Seven Verses Spoken By Jesus From The Cross

Every Good Friday, in most churches around the world, the people of God would meditate on the seven verses spoken by Jesus from the Cross. First verse: Jesus said, "Father, forgive them: for they do not know what they are doing." And they parted His garments, and cast lots (Luke 23:34). Second verse:  One of the malefactors said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into your kingdom".  Jesus said to him, "I tell you the Truth, today you will be with Me in paradise" (Luke 23:42-43) Third verse: When Jesus saw His mother, and the disciple standing by, whom He loved, Jesus said to His mother, "Dear woman, here is your son!"  Then He said to the disciple, "Here is your mother!" (John 19:27).

Doctoring The Soul

There are some things in life that just don’t make sense right now. I’m feeling really out of it with my body. There’s just been some things that keep coming up that have affected me in ways I wish never had. It’s like those things you really have no control over; and it’s been affecting me deeply and significantly. It’s been affecting my psyche. There’s also other feelings of just not being sure of the future. The path that God has for each of us sometimes doesn’t allow the benefit of full support of kith and kin. That’s been affecting…

Why Hurt People Hurt Other People?

It is an old adage that says “hurt people hurt people.” It is well known that those who have been emotionally damaged tend to inflict their hurt and pain on other people. For example, a large percentage of those who have been sexually abused become the abusers of others; those who suffered under an alcoholic parent often themselves cause their future family to suffer because of their drunken stupors. Until we as a church deal with the whole person as shown in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 our congregations will be filled with people who are spiritually gifted but act like emotional infants. As in other words, the church must deal with emotional health and not just spiritual health and power.

Fanning the Flame of Faith – Faith Can Move The Mountains In Your Life

In this story of different kinds of faith, I want to give us the opportunity of examining our levels of faith. The author of Hebrews tells us that it is impossible to please God without faith. Faith is an action word. It does something. It moves forward. It is responding to a Person. Indeed, faith is to believe what we do not see and the end reward of this faith is to see what we believe. The woman with the issue of blood touched the heart of the Father when she fanned into flame the faith that was inside her. Today, are you asking God, “If only I could touch the hem of your garment”. He is here to heal. He is here to touch and make you whole. The same Jesus that we read about in the gospels is right here. Come and respond to Jesus. Only He can touch you. Only He can heal you. Only Jesus can make you whole.

India Is Facing A New Problem – The Deficit of Girls

Missing Girls in India. India is facing a new problem - the deficit of girls! The economy is booming and so is confidence level among the young generation for their palce in the world. This surplus can be seen in almost all facets, except for girl babies. Another progress paradox. This problem is more acute in North India and even in developed states like Punjab. UNICEF’s State of the World’s Children report found that India’s already abysmal sex ratio is getting worse, with 80% of its districts recording declining child sex ratios (more male births than female) since 1991. Kerala,…

Doing Business With India

The first edition of this book completely passed me by! The second edition has overviews of "India at a Glance", as well as on its politics and economics, before it explores issues relating to labour, skills and training; real estate; Special Economic Zones; Analyzing the Indian market; Distribution; the vexed question of Partner Selection; Finance, Tax, Accounting, Law, and Business Culture. The book also has sector reports on pharma and energy - though disappointingly not on infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, the massive entertainment and knowledge industries and so on. But rather than complain about that, I am glad that we have…

Dedicating Hannah

We can’t wait for Sunday. Shainu and I feel like kids waiting for Christmas morning. On Sunday, 7 Mile Road Boston will dedicate Hannah Joy to the Lord. So many cool things about that: » 7 Mile Road is dedicating Hannah, not just Ajay and Shainu. Raising Hannah to know, and love, and serve Jesus is the privilege and responsibility of not just her parents, but her church. As a part of dedicating Hannah, Matt will remind the congregation that the glorious task of nurturing Hannah’s soul and shepherding her heart is shared by the people of God at 7…

Where Is God When It Hurts?

In Passion of the Christ, Jesus appears helpless – a victim of religious hatred and intolerance; a victim of social power-play between religious orders clamoring for a shrinking social space in the face of alien occupation; and a victim of a Roman governor who reflected his own insecurities of political failure, nonetheless different from the Empire he represented in the troubled Roman outpost. Why couldn’t God help Jesus? Where was God when Jesus was falsely accused and unjustly punished with a death penalty? It hurts to see BAD things happen to GOOD people. Even today, there are many whose right to life itself is crushed by forces of systematic evil, which constantly re-invents itself and continues to threaten hope for new life. Jesus’ pain and powerlessness and his consequent death raise a question, ‘Where is God when it hurts?’

Mumbai

1. Spent the last couple weeks in Mumbai. Spent most of that time with Eben and his friends. Christine is nuts but we love her. And Oscar on two wheels (or any wheels for that matter)...intense!! Had a lot of fun :D 2. Had a long heart-to-heart with my cousin Ruby one night. Probably the most open I've ever been with anyone ever. 3. Arrived in Goa on Tuesday. I'm staying at an orphanage here. There are 46 girls that live in the home all coming from different backgrounds. I've already fallen in love with them. I have many many…

Hear My Prayer, O LORD God Almighty

Psalms 84 1 How lovely is your dwelling place,       O LORD Almighty!  2 My soul yearns, even faints,       for the courts of the LORD;       my heart and my flesh cry out       for the living God.  3 Even the sparrow has found a home,       and the swallow a nest for herself,       where she may have her young—       a place near your altar,       O LORD Almighty, my King and my God.  4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;       they are ever praising you.       Selah  5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you,       who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.  6…

Rise Of Mobile & Internet Users

The number of mobile devices worldwide has surpassed 3.3 billion–roughly half of the world’s population. In Japan and several other countries, more people access the Web through mobile devices than fixed PCs. Several countries, including the United Kingdom, now have more mobile phones than people. There are over 500 million active mobile phone accounts in China, as compared to 275 million in India by the end of 2007. Luxembourg has the highest mobile phone penetration rate in the world, at 164% in December 2001. In Hong Kong the penetration rate reached 139.8% of the population in July 2007. The total…

Learning To Follow

These past few weeks have been trial after trial. There have been bouts of depression, rapture, utter amazement, and inexplicable depravity. Throughout this period the thing that keeps me focused and somewhat sane has been the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. There have been countless moments where the Holy Spirit has led me to do one thing, say one thing, and see one thing; unknowingly I walked right into what God had already prepared for me. The passage that has given me the greatest hope in all of these things has been the following: Jesus replied, “The…

Something To Think About?

This week has been pretty hectic. Lots of good things happened and lots of bad things happened.... one of the greatest and most overwhelmingly painful thing that happened was that our Pasotor "Uncle Subash" past away. He went to be with the lord. This was the first time that someone has died.. who i knew.. or had some realation with.. Uncle Subash was a very good man, and he always had something encouraging to say. I didn't know how to react and it didnt even feel like he was gone.. ... at first.. it seemed like this was all just…

Teen Binge Drinking

Teen binge drinking is nothing new. But a recent report from BBC made it clear long term impact of teen drinking habits. The study reported that teen drinkers are more likely to turn alcoholic, use drugs and have criminal conviction by the time they turn 30. Didn’t we all know that intuitively! Now research have proven what we all have always known. They are 60% more likely to be alcoholic, twice as likely for conviction, 40% more likely to use illegal drugs, 40% more likely to suffer mental health problems and 60% more likely to be homeless. They were also…

India: Definitions and Clarifications. A New Book by Reginald Massey

Mr Reginald Massey's new book, with the title above, crossed my horizon a short while ago, and it is written with passion, displaying incredibly wide historical and geographical knowledge of people, history, culture and politics to do with the peoples of South Asia (though India is of course in the foreground). He likes to say that he is "a Pakistani by birth" (he was born in Lahore) but, because his family chose India at the time of Partition, he is "an Indian by choice". Bred therefore in Simla and Delhi, he has been based in the UK for some decades…

Prodigals And Pharisees

Jesus’ parable in Luke 15 has been on my mind a ton lately. I’m so impressed by what Jesus communicated and how He did and to whom. Jesus is hanging out with sinners and tax collectors. It says they kept “drawing near to Him.” Ok, stop right there. Isn’t it amazing that the most irreligious people wanted to be around Jesus. Does the Church reflect that quality of the Lord? As we get ready to plant a church, will we do so in such a way that the “sinners and tax collectors” of our culture would be drawn near? Or…
