CNN Article: Italy court asks: Did Jesus exist?

The article on CNN potrays very candidly the absurdity going on in the world. As if poking our faith wasn't enough, an atheist from Italy is taking the matter a little too far by filing a complaint against a priest for claiming that Jesus Christ did indeed exist! Cascioli says the Roman Catholic Church has been deceiving the people. The trial has been set for next week. Read further on CNN.

Why Are Your Children Not Getting Married?

A few weeks ago, I spoke at one of PARIVAR’s Family Seminars in Chicago, USA. The seminar was geared towards immigrant parents with marriageable children. This was a first of its kind seminar that I heard of or spoken at in the Indian community. The topic given to me was – “What does your children want to tell you ….and don’t know how?” In less than 20 minutes, I had to communicate all that singles think about relationship and marriage to their parents. Not an easy task at all. But in light of the research on the Coconut Generation book and experience of many…

Failure – Part 1

It sure has been a fair bit since I last wrote. Truthfully, I'm lost for any valid excuse. The past few months has been a ride, with loads of ups and downs...what is life without it!? Uni started back in July 05, and while it was rather refreshing going back to student life again, it was no easy task. Loads of reading material, assignments, lectures. In a sense, I kinda prefer work life. You earn a salary, the weekends and after-working hours is usually yours to enjoy. I guess that is why it is so vital to get a job…

Is the Bible the Word of God?

One of the first challenges the Christian faces relates to his acceptance of the Bible as the supreme authority - the only inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God which provides the frame of reference for all that he knows and believes and on the basis of which he could order his behaviour.  Any apologetic that is undertaken must therefore include a defence of the utter trustworthiness of Scripture as originally given in the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. It was that prince of preachers, C.H. Spurgeon who said, 'Defend the Bible I would rather defend a lion!'

Deliver Me

Body broken…heart rendered…pain coursingAll is well yet the depths seem unbendingHead afflicted…words mangled…hurtful agony Father keep me in the palm of your HandHeaven help me understandGod if you’re there…hear my cryThough I offer up my life, to you a broken sacrificeThe pain keeps me reticent, and bonds tie me downEvery part of me seeks releaseAs words become my deliveranceForever keep me at your feetIn abandon to your name alone For who is there like you…O GodThe earth sings your praiseMy heart calls out your nameAnd though pain courses through these veinsHelp me realize that you’re with meEven though I can’t…

Mr Jindal Goes to Washington

One of Louisiana's most popular politicians is recently elected Congressman Bobby Jindal, an American South Asian. In a frank discussion with LittleIndia's Lavina Melwani, Jindal spoke about everything from his faith to his motivations to enter politics. Excerpts from his interview are reproduced here.

An Air of Frustration and a Tinge of Dissatisfaction

The end of an all together uneventful day led by the emotional remnants of a "fair" exam, fried chicken and cheese stuffed portabello mushrooms, with tidbits of a Returning King, all subjected to and muddled in sleep. Dreams are a curious thing - a thing I'd like to discover the answer and meaning to without the psyched-out analysis and chemical compositions.People: the definition of "science project gone bad"- insert "the joy of the city" people everywhere, all of them nothing to you- wanting to live in a pseudo-reality where the laws of MSN rule.Do I dare continue? Is there meanining at…

Jude – Genuine Christianity

Ashish Joy writes a rather strong arguement in 'Jude - Genuine Christianity'. In today's culture, Christianity has been somewhat distorted and the fear of God lacking among many. Feel free to share your feedback in part one of this two-part essay.

Desi Movies & Coconut as Hybrids

I am not much of a movie buff. But I do enjoy well researched, stimulating and entertaining productions of talented actors/actresses/directors. Fusion of East and West is a growing theme in Desi movies. I have made references to and drawn lessons from few in the book – Understanding the Coconut Generation. Here are some links to the growing breed of films: American Chai, ABCD, American Desi, Bend it like Beckham, Bhaji on the Beach, Bride & Prejudice, Chutney Popcorn, East is East, Flavors, Green Card Fever, The Guru, Harold & Kumar go to White Castle, Heat and Dust and Hollywood, Bollywood …

God why? Why is it so?

God I'm sick of my spiritual apathy right now. I claim to love you, but I don't have a passion for You. My heart is such disarray. I've wandered and tasted what the world has to offer, and at times I find myself wandering still. I'm so sick of not being able to change society for you. It seems that the Christian ideal, remains just a passion to rise high and mighty in the church, and not affect the masses of unregenerate that roam our communities. How can I reach them Father? How can I be the light that shines…

Navin Saigal Life Story

Finally I have arrived at this point - the decision to get baptized. Why it has come so late, I myself cannot answer fully. I guess I just had a lot of inertia to take this step of declaring my faith... yet I do not regret not having done it sooner, because after all my experiences I know for sure now that the God I serve is alive and guiding my life.

Importance of Family

The Importance of Family As I look back upon time, I can say with pure recollection, that family is one of the most important aspects of a person’s life. My upbringing defined me, and my family environment became a part of my identity. In this respect it remains of utmost importance to initiate, cultivate, maintain, and prioritize family relationships. Growing up in a Western culture where family values are not held as strictly, can be a deterrent in this regard, but it remains in our heritage to continue on this valuable tradition. I can say I take the best of both…

Sadhu Sundar Singh – Wisdom of the Sadhu

Mourned by millions at his death, Sadhu Sundar Singh (1889-1929) is India's most famous convert to Christianity. He rooted Christian wisdom in a distinctively Indian style and emphasized the life-changing teachings of Jesus Christ. Many Sikhs will be astounded by the discovery of this little saint and fascinated to find out why he would follow Jesus when he already had a rich and deep spiritual inheritance in Sikhism.

Take off your beer goggles!

"Beer goggles."  This phrase is commonly used to describe the effect alcohol has on the drinker's perception of what makes the opposite sex attractive.  Drinking alcohol sometimes can make a seemingly unattractive person look like a fashion model in the drinker's eyes.  In effect, "beer goggles" distorts the truth, which a drinker becomes painfully aware of when he or she sobers. Even without the alcohol, some wear beer goggles all the time.  When we absorb and apply society's trends and ideologies that are sinful and/or can lead to sinful behavior, we too wear beer goggles.  With these goggles on, our…

Jeevan Frontiers – Dr. Simon Mahendran – Captured by His Call

I was praying in my surgery, after clinic hours, one evening in 1992. Then the Lord spoke, "Arise and deliver the foreign Indian workers." He was showing me a mission field at our very doorstep, in a part of Singapore, often referred to as "Little India." This was a large community of migrant workers, Hindus and Muslims working away from their homeland in India and Bangladesh. Ministry began and still continues.

My Christian Girlfriend Doesn't Want to Follow My Hindu Faith

"My Christian Girlfriend Doesn't Want to Follow My Hindu Faith" I am faced with a dilemma and was hoping if you could offer me some advice and solace. I am a Hindu and have received a proposal from a Christian girl who converted from Hinduism 3 years ago. Whilst my parents expect her to follow my religion after marriage; I am of the view that she can follow her religion but she has to partake in all my Hindu religious activities; and that we have to have a Hindu marriage. I also respect Christianity and she can go to church…

Drugs, Alcohol, Music and the Grace of God

When I was on stage performing before a crowd that was high on drugs and alcohol, I suddenly heard an audible voice of the Lord, which was clearly undisturbed by all the other noises, asking me "Joe, are you using your talent constructively or destructively?"
