Serving God's Purposes in Our Generation (Acts 13:36b)

I Am Born A Hindu and Will Die A Hindu!

If God Wanted Me to be a Christian, Then Why Am I Born in a Hindu Family?

Can anyone be born into a religion? Quite simply, the answer is a straight No. No one is born believing in any religion. One can only be born in a family that is of a particular faith. Since the teachings of any religion are taught, only after learning does one becomes a follower or adherent of that faith.

To illustrate this point, let's assume a child that is born in a Hindu family is given for adoption to a Sikh family. And if a Sikh brings up the child in the teachings of Sikhism then the child though born in a Hindu family, becomes a practicing Sikh. Was the child a Hindu or a Sikh at birth? He was neither.

Religion is not hereditary. It is not true that one is born into a religion. Religion is a matter of faith. As one learns the doctrines of a religion, he makes a choice to follow the path of that religion. So the statement that one is born a Hindu, or a Sikh or a Christian or Muslim is untrue. What we do inherit at birth are through our genes. For example, a Chinese baby may be raised in an Indian family but the baby will never look like an Indian.

God does not choose our religion for us. We do. We can be born in any family, as far as God is concerned.

The conclusion is: religion is something that one follows out of conviction and is not born with.

Of course, as an adult when a person leaves this world he dies with his convictions whatever they may be. The real issue is: Do we have the assurance that we are at peace with God and know for sure where we are going after we die?

The Word of God declares we are all born into this world not into any religion but in the state of a broken relationship with God. The Bible terms it 'sin'.

Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. - Psalms 51:5

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God... Romans 3:23

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned - Romans 5:12

The Lord Jesus Christ was the only one who was born into this world who had no sin.

But you know that Jesus appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in Him is no sin. - 1 John 3:5

A Christian is one whose sins are forgiven. He is therefore at peace with God. This happens when one puts his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and accept His free gift of everlasting life.
