Serving God's Purposes in Our Generation (Acts 13:36b)

Un-Opened Letters to God

Recently a news item was published with the headline “Unanswered Prayers: Letters To God Found Dumped In Ocean”.Some one had found about 300 letters tossed in the ocean that were sent to a New Jersey minister - most of them unopened. The minister was long dead. It’s a mystery, how the letters came to be floating in the surf off the New Jersey shore. The letters were addressed to the minister since he had promised to pray for these requests. Some of the letters asked for surprising things while others were written by people in distress - anguished spouses, children or widows.…

A True Servant of God Will Neither Be Popular Nor Be Able To Make Money

Throughout history it has been true that the people of God have always preferred false prophets who tickle their ears and say things to make them happy. Most of God’s people have never cared to listen to God’s true prophets who tell them the truth. So if you are a servant of God who wants to preach God’s word, remember one thing: You will never be popular. You won’t be able to make money. You will be despised and rejected like these Old Testament prophets were. In spite of all this, the Lord still told Israel in Micah 2:12 -…

Christian Ministers – Cracked Clay Pots!

The critics of the Apostle Paul sought to discredit him. They questioned his authority and judged the motives of his ministry. In defense, Paul uses the image of an earthen vessel to describe the role of an authentic minister of Jesus Christ. He acknowledges that at best we are broken mud pots carrying within us a priceless treasure (2Cor. 4:7). But this was not how Paul first understood ministry and it took him tough times to get to say this!Paul hailed from the influential city of Tarsus where he was given Roman citizenship. He was proficient in the Greek language…

God Helps in Weaknesses . . . . But?

Have you ever wondered why God at times doesn’t help us in overcoming our weaknesses? Why is it when we cry out to God to free us from our moral failures, He seems to hide Himself from us, as if He is not willing to come for our aid? We may be pleading to God to deliver us from vices, such as anger, lust, anxiety, impatience, greed…etc, and yet we find ourselves again and again staining ourselves with these evils, and therefore thinking, “When will God help me in these areas to live a life of an overcomer? If God…

Praise The Lord!

1 I bless God every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise.  2 I live and breathe God;    if things aren't going well, hear this and be happy:  3 Join me in spreading the news;    together let's get the word out.  4 God met me more than halfway,    he freed me from my anxious fears.  5 Look at him; give him your warmest smile.    Never hide your feelings from him.  6 When I was desperate, I called out,    and God got me out of a tight spot.  7 God's angel sets up a…

Kids On Facebook Get Lower Grades

Heard of this? Kids who use Facebook have lower GPA than those who do not. A new study by a doctral candidate has now confirmed what parents always was suspicious about. Too much time spend on computers on social networking apps are taking precious time that should be spend on studying. See the report in TIME.Critics say you don’t need a doctral dessertation is show what is obvious. Others say study does not suggest that Facebook directly causes lower grades, but there is a relationship between the two. “Networking may not be need now,” parents say, “they need to focus…

Five Signs You Are Becoming A Spiritual Wimp And Six Reasons The Church Is Producing Spiritual Wimps

It has been my observation the past ten years that the commitment level of the average Christian in the United States has been on the decline. People seem to get offended much easier, it is harder to get people to sacrifice and volunteer, and people seem to be caught up more in the needs of their own lives than focusing on the Kingdom of God. While church attendance is at an all-time high the moral standards of our culture are progressively getting worse. The following are signs an individual Christian or local church are spiritual wimps. (A “wimp” is a person who lacks the commitment, integrity, or fortitude to live a life in line with biblical standards.)

Ten Kinds of People I Cannot Help

As a pastor for more than 26 years, I have a desire to help everyone. But, I have learned the hard way that I cannot help every person who attends our church or who comes to me for input. The following are ten kinds of people I have identified that are so entrenched in certain habit patterns that I cannot help them advance to the next level unless they make the necessary shift in their attitude or behavior.

Swiss Efficiency!

The family is in the middle of buying a car (not my favourite activity!).My son, who has organised everything, told me that we needed to go to the Office which issues the licence plate for the car.We went this morning and, as I had certain other things to do, wanted to be in and out as early as possible. The office was supposed to open at 8.00 a.m. We arrived at 7.55 a.m.Only to find that, this being Switzerland, SIX other people were ahead of us in the queue! We had to go to one window to hand in papers et al,…

Ashlee Madhukar – A Talent to Watch Out For

"I definitely want to pursue music as a career, because that is where my passion lies. I have absolutely no complaints. I love who I am and I love what I do," she said. "The future holds a lot of uncertainty in a very positive way. I'm not sure exactly what it holds, but God continues to open new doors for me everyday. I am coming out with a remake of 'One Step at a Time' by famous singer/song writer Jordin Sparks and plan to start touring schools and churches once the song is done," she said. Why the remake? "We will add an Indian touch of beat to this song in pop style for the mainstream audience," she said.

From A Worshiped Guru To A Worshiping Disciple Of Jesus Christ

My disciples would carry me on their shoulders so that my feet did not touch the ground. They would wash my feet upon reaching their homes and would drink that as “anjal” and would meet all my needs/wants/preferences. All our material and financial needs were gladly met by the tithes of our disciples. They also served us in every way possible because they considered it a privilege and honour to please us so as to please god - guru being a mediator between god and them.

People Need The Lord

Everyday They Pass Me By, I Can See It In Their Eyes. Empty People Filled With Care, Headed Who Knows Where? On They Go Through Private Pain, Living Fear To Fear. A Newness

I have now lived in the Vancouver area for ten months. I moved here after four years of intense growth during my time at Portland Bible College. There was always some thing in me that told me to come back to this place. I could call it vision, or pur pose, or under stand ing; but really it was just this feel ing on the inside of me. I was drawn back to the place that had captured my imagination.Knowing some thing in your heart and mov ing towards that inner feeling are two completely different things. You can have…

Contex-Realisation: Gospel & Culture

The gospel is the message of God’s forgiving and liberating love embodied in the person and saving work of Jesus (Rom 1:15). Yet, this eternal truth needs to be communicated to all people, situated in their particular place, at a specific time and cultural context, i.e. historical moment. ‘Culture’ concerns a people group’s ‘way of life’ and relates to all aspects of individual and social well-being. The gospel recognizes cultural diversity and social units. The uniqueness of each culture is meant to reveal God’s manifold grace and reflect his glory. While human thinking has been distorted and cultures marred by…

Pluralism, Inclusivism, Exclusivism – and Roman Catholicism

A friend sends me a thoughtful piece on Pluralism, Inclusivism, and Exclusivism and asks my view also of Vatican II.Here is my response: The piece you attached is a good one, though it focuses on religions. So far as I can see, all religions are essentially institutions that work and even fight for their own power, riches and glory (they may do a certain amount of good and a certain amount of harm on the way, but that is incidental).Vatican II was an interesting experiment for the Roman Church but, as with Chairman Mao's "Let a thousand flowers bloom and a…

Who Is Your Best Friend?

I was grappling with the admonition given by the commonwealth panel and I found the answer to my previous post.. If time is your biggest enemy then discipline must be our best friend.Think about it, whether at work, or at home or even in our play, the ones who seem to have it all under control are the ones who are disciplined in the face of time.  Not that i dont have my own battles in this area but the ones who shine, are those who are disciplined. They seem to dance along but there is an underpinning of discipline…
