Serving God's Purposes in Our Generation (Acts 13:36b)

Importance Of Church

In Revelation 1:10-11, we find that John heard a voice saying, "Write in a book what you see, and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea." God gives us messages not only for ourselves but also for others. When God speaks to us, it is a good habit to write down what we hear, as John was commanded to do here (Rev. 1:11).

Vignettes Of An Old Lady

IT IS about three months that I started living in Mumbai as a paying guest with an elderly Maharashtrian family. In this time, my landlady and her reclusive husband have told me more about their lives than I perhaps have shared with them. And not just with them – but with any one – even with people who have been my friends for more than a quarter century.

‘Home’ & Missions

Driving to work, I listened to a song that urged us to ‘live like we are dying’. The truth of that verse hit me when I received news that my father – 84 years old in India and in good health – suddenly passed away. Dad knew the Lord, so his death wasn’t a dead-end but a doorway to a better life. Thanks to all who sympathized with me at my dad’s home-going. We are not just ‘growing old’, but ‘going nearer home’!

Indian Origin To Song – I Have Decided To Follow Jesus

Moved by the Holy Spirit, the man instantly composed a song which became famous down the years. He sang: I have decided to follow Jesus. (3 times) No turning back, no turning back. Enraged at the refusal of the man, the chief ordered his archers to arrow down the two children. As both boys lay twitching on the floor, the chief asked, “Will you deny your faith? You have lost both your children. You will lose your wife too.” But the man sang these words in reply: Though None Go With Me, Still I Will Follow (3Times) No Turning Back, No Turning Back . . .  . .  The World Behind Me, The Cross Before Me (3 times) No Turning Back, No Turning Back. He was shot dead like the rest of his family. But with their deaths, a miracle took place.

Before the Wedding Bells

With nearly half of all new marriages in the West ending in divorce, more couples are careful before entering into it. They want to make sure it is the right decision, and they want to do everything they can within their capacity hoping to increase their chances of marital success. Before the Wedding Bells is a resource intended for singles who are pursuing a relationship or for engaged couples counting down to the big day in their life. This is designed to assist individuals and couples to develop a deeper understanding of marriage and in developing skills to navigate their way through marriage successfully.

The Whole Gospel – A Total Gospel And Not A Personal Or Social Gospel

A gospel of total salvation means we have a total relationship with Jesus. You know, evangelicals like to ask, “Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus?” You know how I answer that question today? “I don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus. I have a totalrelationship with Jesus.” Personal relationship means it’s an individualistic, one-on-one relationship, and it’s a private matter. It’s personal. It’s private. My relationship with Jesus is anything but private. My relationship with Jesus is not restricted to only my religious life, so to speak. All areas of my life, the totality of my life, my whole life – body, soul, mind, feelings – all my life is under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We serve God not only in church, not only when we pray or lead a Bible study or evangelize. We serve God with all our lives, whether at work or play or school.

Indian Christians Feeling Unwelcome At UK Churches

The Church of England will bring out new initiatives to draw members of the Asian community especially those of Indian origin after reports that they were feeling unwelcome in mainstream churches in UK.

The Church's response came after a recent conference highlighted the feeling of exclusion expressed by Asian Christians who are now reportedly forming small churches where they sing and pray in their native languages.

Technology Turkey

I am now officially “addicted” I now develop “cold turkey” if I am not hooked for more than two or three hours. Yes, I am talking about the withdrawal symptoms one gets when one does not get the “fix” one desperately wants.

If you have seen the three words that I placed in quotes – they are usually used in the same sentence when one is describing a person who is hooked to drugs.

The Power and Importance of a Prayer Meeting

Nowadays, pastors emphasize church growth by focusing on successful strategies for understanding their surrounding culture and target audience, and examining their congregations to determine their strengths and weaknesses. What follows is an arduous process of changing the culture of a church to reflect the new methodologies in order to fulfill its mission.

Best Practice for Executives' Decisions About Technology

Several years ago, I published a piece of research into the top 100 Company Boards and the relationship with technology-related matters. The results were "shocking but not surprising": none of the Boards had any definition for technology competence, and none of them assessed their own competence about technological matters.

Separation or Seclusion?

Reading: Matthew 9:9-13

"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor
stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful" (Psalm 1:1)

Missions – Measuring Depth of Commitment

Mission-minded churches attempt great things for God and expect great things from God. There are members who are good at making comments and criticism about what is and should be happening. As a result there is undue concern for self maintenance (cleaning nets), rather than obeying God’s voice or meeting people’s needs. Obedience always leads to blessing; delayed obedience is disobedience. Faith missions is simply taking God at his word. Attempt something so great, that it’s doomed to fail except God be in it!

Mission Year

Last night, Shainu and I were invited to a banquet for Mission Year. Mission Year is an organization that sends young people to cities across the country to love and serve a particular neighborhood for a period of one year. So nine different cities in the US (one of them being Philadelphia) have Mission Year folks working in them right now.

Time Will Tell . . . .

Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated.

Satan’s Top Ten List for Christians

Many people in the church are so emotionally incapacitated due to father or parental wounds they do not have a healthy view of any authority in their lives. When someone comes to Christ these emotional issues don’t automatically go away. Unless someone intentionally points out these areas and aids a person in repenting of their mistrust of authority, most with these wounds will have a hard time receiving correction from any form of spiritual authority. Satan will even plant seeds into the minds of Christians regarding blame shifting (blaming others for their own sins and failures, and not taking personal responsibility) when their pastor preaches a strong message involving correction for sin, or when a spiritual authority has to give them correction. Some get angry and might even leave the church.

Expressing Gratitude To The Saviour

My motto is "Have some wine and think how good life is..." Recently, I lounged in Portland City Grill. With a drink in one hand and gazing over the city and view, I relaxed and thought about the good things of life. For a moment I forgot that I was in a crowded place. I thought about the goodness and things in life I am looking forward to.

Disappointment

Interesting as they may be, low purposes ultimately let you down since once the challenge is conquered, disappointment sets in.

"I said to myself, 'Come on, let's try pleasure. Let's look for the 'good things' in life.' But I found that this too was meaningless" -The Bible (Ecclesiastes 2:1).

The Quiet Stillness

God, I’m not trying to rule the roost, I don’t want to be king of the mountain. I haven’t meddled where I have no business or fantasized grandiose plans. I’ve kept my feet on the ground, I’ve cultivated a quiet heart. Like a baby content in its mother’s arms, my soul is a baby content. Wait, Israel, for God. Wait with hope. Hope now; hope always!

Three Dolls

Once a wiseman went to palace. He presented three dolls to the prince living there.

Immediately the prince got angry and asked the wiseman, “Am I a girl to play with dolls? Why did you give me these dolls?”

The wiseman said, “These dolls will be useful for your future". He also gave a piece of string to the prince.

Power With God And Power With Men

It is written in Genesis 32:29 that “God blessed Jacob there". The word "bless" is perhaps the most frequently used word in the prayers of Christians; but few understand its real meaning.

What is blessing? What was the blessing Jacob got? It is described in verse 28 as "power with God and power with men”.
