Tomorrow night (Thursday, May 13 :: 7pm) we’re relaunching Doubt Night at Starbucks. After a brief hiatus and rethinking through some things, we’re pleased to announce the addition of a “2.0″ at the end of the name! Ajay led through the first round last year and has handed off the baton to me for the next.
These nights are meant to provide a friendly environment for folks who have doubts, questions, and thoughts about matters of life, religion, and truth. While the gist of these nights can be explained in a short sentence, the breadth of each issue is immense. The question of the meaning of life has been one of debate among philosophers and intellectuals for centuries. This question will more or less be at the heart of the discussions for Doubt Night.
Though I have an avid interest in apologetics, philosophy and the amicable banter that usually follows, I am not ignorant to my deficiencies. I am continually praying that God would turn these self-doubts into unrelenting faith in Him. I am constantly reminding myself that it is not man who saves, but God. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 2:1-5:
And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
Perspective is a word that I am continually reminding myself of. Intellect has its place, but it is subservient to God, who is the very One who has given man the ability to reason. Though this may not be the position of those we dialogue with, our beginning, middle, and end must be anchored in the truth of the Gospel. I can go on for a while…so I’ll end here.
