Blogging Is/Isn’t Narcissistic

Narcissism - the word we get from that Greek myth about the guy who was condemned to falling in love with his own reflection. That’s how I’ve always pictured blogging. It always seemed like the activity of those who just love to hear their own voice or read their own words. It seemed like what you do if you have an opinion about everything and too much time to sit around saying it. Narcissus

I think that underlying fear has surfaced in this blog. And so for the most part, we’ve used this site sort of like a bulletin board. When important stuff happens, we write about it. Otherwise, we sit quietly till we have something to report.

Anyway, I read a cool blog today about 6 reasons why pastors should blog (I know, a blog advocating more blogging). But the post argues that blogging doesn’t have to be an exercise in self-love, but can be a resource to others, and in the meantime can make you a better writer, thinker, and pastor. So perhaps going forward, maybe this site should feel a little less like a bulletin board and a little bit more like a blog. Perhaps.
