WWW.2009 – Waiting, Watching, Working

We are going to enter a New Year - 2009. There are elaborate arrangements in various parts of the world to mark this occasion.  Every new day brings us closer to eternity.  Either the Lord’s coming is getting ahead by a day or our death.  Therefore, it is essential to anticipate the future with serenity.  This is possible, only by rescheduling our lives according to Luke 12: 35-43.  There are three principles written in that.  They are Waiting, Watching and Working.  Those who are familiar with the Internet can understand the significance of www.

Christmas, However, Is Not Good News For Every Person

Christmas for many is a time of sadness and of pain. It is not good news for daily wagers, when redundancy looms, nor is it good news for families of farmers who have lost their crops. Is it glad tidings for Srilankan Tamil refugees who experience agony, pain and sufferings in their own country as well as in India due the ethnic conflict? Christmas is not good news either for orphan children go through pain and suffering for their day-to-day survival. Moreover, Christmas is not good news for those who have lost their loved ones in the year that has gone by.

Fully Rely On God

Walking in darkness could mean many adverse impacts in ones life.  The difference between a Christian and others would be the attitude and response to adverse circumstances in life.  The two principles mentioned in this passage are: trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God and do not create own lights in darkness.  That means to solely depend on God and refuse to solve the problem in worldly wisdom.  There are several kinds of darkness in a person’s life, of which twelve are listed below.  But it could be handled applying these two principles.  In contrast, one who tries to create their own light, would not prosper but endure torment.

Forgiveness – Key To A Happy, Healthy And Spirit-Filled Life

If you are anything like me then I can safely guarantee that you have been wronged many times over. Most of the times it is by the people we love, cherish and trust. That is why exculpation (to clear of guilt or blame) can become very painful. Maybe because we confuse it with condoning the wrongs committed against us. Many times we convince ourselves that the person who has wronged us doesn’t deserve our forgiveness. What is important is to realise that forgiveness has nothing to do with others and ALL to do with us because it is the forgiver that benefits from this act, not the forgiven. However, it’s important to let go and forgive. Here are some reasons why you should forgive with freedom no matter what the offense.

Awake From Your Slumber

“And do this, understanding the present time.  The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” (Romans 13:11)  Paul exhorts us to wake up from our slumber or sleep. Medical science also provides a lot of insights about sleep.  Rapid Eye Movement sleep is when brain is active, while body is inactive.  This is the normal sleep.  Non–Rapid Eye Movement sleep is when body is active, brain is inactive. In the spiritual life of a Christian it is possible to fall asleep.  Like Jonah we could fall asleep in disobedience. Like Samson, we could loose our spiritual vitality by being in the wrong place with wrong people.  The Lord calls us to awake and be alert.

Practical Faith

Why do people make the calling of God some out-there, super-spiritual, phenomenon? Calling in simple terms is obedience and faithful allegiance to God. It stems from a relationship with God—not own merits. Calling is so often misunderstood . . . the way God is working on my life, I may not know what my 'calling' is until my death. I am finding out more and more that I do not need to sit around and wait for a calling to do something such as helping out in a ministry for the time being or going on a short-term mission trip. Get out there and God will guide you. I want to go to different places just for the experience and opportunities. That is when God speaks to you and you grow in Christ and become a more mature person.

Jude – Genuine Christianity

Ashish Joy writes a rather strong arguement in 'Jude - Genuine Christianity'. In today's culture, Christianity has been somewhat distorted and the fear of God lacking among many. Feel free to share your feedback in part one of this two-part essay.

The Good Life

With post-modernism settling well into our culture and the wealth of conflicting belief systems in the world, many believers especially teenagers feel they are inadequately equipped in presenting the gospel. What then is the best arguement or the best defense for our faith?

World of Difference

How will people remember you a hundred years from now? Successful CEO? Top entrepreneur? Mesmerizing Speaker? Popular Pastor? Gifted Student? World-Class Worker? How can you make a world of difference?

Exodus Revisited

The question of how tens of thousands of people survived forty years in the desert, raised their children, warded of enemies, and fulfilled a God-given plan and purpose continues to baffle many. Benita writes a compelling analysis of Exodus and sheds further light on how this story has shaped the workings of the society of the time and those of subsequent generations.

How Much Do We Give? A Post-Tsunami Reflection

Photo by Simon Wong. simon.wong@intuitivesystems.com.au2004 ended with the worst of natural calamities with the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster but 2005 began with a display of the best of humanity's virtues. The outpouring of giving and care internationally in the disaster's wake has indeed been commendable. However, it dawned on me that every situation wherein we have the opportunity to give, no matter how much we give we can always offer more. And that gives pause for reflection.
