I Was Once Lost But Now Am Found!

I am Sunil Rane and this is my story. I come from a Goan orthodox Hindu family. Ever since my childhood, I had a very strong desire to learn more about God. My parents taught me prayers that I used to chant every day while worshiping the idols placed in our house, but I had many questions and queries which neither my family members nor the priests in the temple could answer . . . Such was my immense craving for God that I traveled to different places just to learn more about spirituality and meditation, I went to ashrams, I met Gurus and I read many religious books. I was already working at that time when in 1996, I came across a religious book exhibition where I found some old scriptures in Hindu books called Vishnu Puran and Books on Vedas .

Honor God and People

Many pastors and leaders are frustrated because they do not sense the power and presence of God in their churches. Also, many people in the church are frustrated because they do not feel appreciated and released into their kingdom destiny. We think this will come automatically with prayer, fasting, healings, and great preaching. But, if pastors would help create a culture of honor in their churches and if members would learn how to respect and honor spiritual authority there would be an incredible release of the glory of God in our midst!

Effective Study Methods

Our minds have a central place in our spiritual lives. Romans 12: 2 teaches that we need to be transformed by the renewing of our minds and that without this renewal we cannot know God’s will. Without the knowledge of God’s will, we won’t be able to live lives that are pleasing to God. Moreover, we are to love God with our minds, because He created us as rational beings in His own image and likeness and intellectual growth is an integral part of spiritual growth. That is what we learn from the life of our Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 2:46-47 & 52) and the lives of Daniel and his friends (Daniel 1:4 & 17). Even in the Christian life it is very critical, because it is a discipline that strengthens the mind and enriches the soul. Strengthening the mind is very important, because we are to serve the Lord, our God with all our hearts, with all our souls and with all our minds.

Jesus Religion Versus Jesus Relationship

You know who’s at the center of religion? You are. You’re the focus. You’re the star. You’re in center stage and the spotlight is always on you. Religion deceives you into thinking you’re all about God, when in reality, you’re all about you. When you’re in religion, your relationship with God is based entirely on you; on how many prayers you pray, how you do at reading the Scriptures, how you do in keeping the commands, how you do at going to church, and on and on the list goes. Religion is based on man’s continued work.

Be The Centre – Jesus, Be The Centre

Jesus, Be The Centre - Be My Source, Be My Light - Jesus - Jesus, Be The Centre - Be My Hope, Be My Song - Jesus - (Chorus) - Be The Fire In My Heart - Be The Wind In These Sails - Be The Reason That I Live - Jesus, Jesus - Jesus, Be My Vision - Be My Path, Be My Guide - Jesus

Will The World End In 2012?

2012 is produced, directed and written by the same person who made “Independence Day” and “The Day After Tomorrow” that depicts the end of the world. What makes this 2012 movie different is that it illustrates a cataclysmic event on December 21, 2012 as prophesied by the ancient Mayan calendar. Basically, the Mayans believed that the god of war and creation, Bolon Yokte, will descend from the sky and judge the earth. Proponents of this view include the best-selling author of the book The Bible Code, Michael Drosnin, who claims that secret biblical codes when unlocked show the earth pounded by comets in 2012. Another proponent, Lawrence Joseph, author of the book Apocalypse 2012, says that on the day in question the sun will be in exact alignment with the center of our galaxy resulting in some kind of gravitational shift that will throw our planet out of orbit, causing catastrophe.

South Asian Christian Diaspora

The South Asian Christian diaspora is largely invisible in the literature about religion and migration. This is the first comprehensive study of South Asian Christians living in Europe and North America, presenting the main features of these diasporas, their community histories and their religious practices. The South Asian Christian diaspora is pluralistic both in terms of religious adherence, cultural tradition and geographical areas of origin. This book gives justice to such pluralism and presents a multiplicity of cultures and traditions typical of the South Asian Christian diaspora. Issues such as the institutionalization of the religious traditions in new countries, identity, the paradox of belonging both to a minority immigrant group and a majority religion, the social functions of rituals, attitudes to language, generational transfer, and marriage and family life, are all discussed.

Monogamy – Is It Realistic?

A friend recently asked me, “Is monogamy realistic in 21st century?” That made me thinking. In an age of divorce, hookup culture and widespread infidelity, “till death do us part’ seems nearly impossible. Celebrities are openly flaunting their extra-marital exploits! With people constantly moving from place to place and changing jobs like they do with clothes, the ‘use and throw’ attitude is creeping into our thinking of how we view relationships like that of marriage.

The Silent Revolution – Pray For People

We live in an an age where success is all about sound bytes. It is about being seen, being heard and being recognized. We want to be ’seen’ busy. We want to be where the ‘action’ is.We live and believe in ‘aspirational’ christianity and so all what we ’spiritually’ are is put on Face Book. We are ever in a ‘broadcast’ mode as we get lost in the craze for the world of megapixels and megabytes. And often times, we gain the whole world’s attention but end up losing on the heavenly joy of ‘rooting’ people in spirituality and ‘building’ them up to live out faith when it matters and where it matters.

I, Me And My Digital Cave

Who am I?, I log-in as a user-name. Key-in protected life-passwords, to prove I am ‘me’. Elsewhere, it is a 4 digit PIN. I enjoy online status. Faceless existence. Multiple Identities. I juggle ‘this-is-how-I-look-now’ profile images . . . . Am I my image? Am I my profile? Am I myself, after my 15 minutes of fame? Is this my alter-ego? Or am I just trying to be me? Can anyone know the real ‘me’?

Diwali Or Deepavali – A 'Festival Of Lights' – Triumphant Victory Of Good Over Evil

Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is a 'festival of lights' celebrated especially by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. This festival is spread over three to four days and is one of the most anticipated times of celebration. Homes are lit with hundreds of deeya (clay oil lamps) during the season, to signify victory of good over evil. The day of Diwali is the highlight of this celebratory mood. Families get together to start the day with oil baths, then exchange gifts and sweets, followed by the most exciting event of the year - family fire works. Fireworks begin before the crack of dawn and go well into the day. No amount of description is sufficient to capture all the excitement and celebrations associated with the Diwali festival. You have to be there to experience it.

From Janitor, Cook and Dishwasher To A Trainer of Leaders

Who would have thought, when in 1973, student Samuel Chand was serving Beulah Heights Bible College (BHBC) as janitor, cook and dishwasher, that he would return in 1989 as President of the same college! Under his leadership BHBC became the country's largest predominantly African-American Bible college. Dr. Chand is a former Pastor, college President, Chancellor and now serves as President Emeritus of Beulah Heights University. In this season of his life, Dr. Chand does one thing - Leadership. His singular vision for his life is to Help Others Succeed.

Getting To New Places

No leader is immune to the shifting circumstances and events that can challenge or stymie their professional or organizational progress. Advance warning of these oncoming storms, together with adequate preparation, can mean the difference between disaster and success. . .  . . . But the first step in getting there was disengaging. You cannot remain static if you want to be moving. You have to become part of something that is moving and associate with people who are moving. If your church, company or organization is going somewhere, you'll find that people will want to be connected with you so that they can go somewhere too.
