From Devout Sikh to Catholic Priest

This is the story of Jaideep Singh, who recently became a Maryknoll missionary, a societies of apostolic life founded in the United States in the early 1900s. Today he is Fr. Stephen James Taluja. Born in 1981, the youngest child of an important Indian Sikh family, the only male eagerly awaited by his parents after three daughters. Fr. Stephen talks to AsiaNews about his unique and personal story that revolves around his discovery that Christ is the Mighty God "in weakness" and the certainty that "God is faithful." "My mother was a very devout woman who introduced me to the teachings of the Guru Granth Sahib educated us at home in the prayer and recitation of the hymns of the sacred scriptures. My father accompanied me to the Gurdwara, the Sikh temple, and he raised me in the faith of the almighty. My parents instilled in us children love for God and a sense of service to the community."

Break Free From The Web – Don’t Let The Computer Master You

Our world has been redefined to a faster pace than we thought, especially in the last 5 years. Our world has grown additional tongues, ears and eyes; we call it the virtual world. My mother is still trying to wrap her head around that fact that majority of the ministry work is actually done on the computer. And from the way it seems, the virtual world has taken over a generation itself. From relationships to direct communications, everything seems to be moulded by this world.  Now since there are thousands of benefits available, if we are not careful, we may end up becoming slaves to the computer and it in turn affecting our overall job performance, relationships and other activities.

Through Shame And Failure To Be A Blessing To The World

Benny Prasad says, "If I could be made useful, any one in this world can. If my dreams can come true, yours can too. My sin and shame has been exchanged for righteousness and new life by the Almighty God who died to set me free. For those with no hope, there is more to life than what today holds. I thank God that I did not end my life but rather chose to live through shame and failure so that today I'm able to be a blessing to the world. Remember, you are never too bad or sinful for God to redeem and transform."

Observations and Ponderings For 2010

I love to ponder the possibilities and creative ways we can please God and serve others. I love to reflect on how things are, and “what if” we changed them. How can we further align ourselves toward His Most Excellent Ways. These are observations and ponderings can be purposeful to challenge existing paradigms, while firming up Kingdom foundations. Many of these are happening all around us, but what if they were not just the exception, but were consistently happening. What will Father do as His children grow up in becoming more like Him? My prayers are to continually stimulate possibility thoughts towards ways that bring forth His Kingdom through our lives.

New Intentions for 2010

Each year begins with numerous New Year decisions or resolutions.  But, they do not lost even for weeks.  So, I thought of having “New Intentions” that is applicable for day-to-day life.  These are not ‘New’ but ‘basics’ we often forget or neglect.  It is more like code of conduct for my life.  I share this, because it may be useful to some of you.  As there are twelve months in a year, I have listed 12 intentions that could be picked up and focused during each month.

The Animated Biblical Christmas Story

Tiger Woods And What The Bible Teaches About Sex Addiction

A week after the Tiger Woods scandal broke many folks began saying that Mr. Woods is a sex addict. As reported recently, “Manhattan author and therapist Bonnie Eaker Weil said of Woods’ situation that repetitive cheating is an addiction. ‘What begins with a desire to relieve stress or mute depression easily progresses to a preoccupation with where their next ‘fix’ will come from.’….Pro athletes, accustomed to the rush of celebrity, often look to sex for a similar high.” The article continues: “Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of VH1’s ‘Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew,’ told CBS News that addiction ‘has people doing things that don't make sense.’ [Jaimie] Grubbs claims to have more than 300 text messages from Woods saved on her phone and has released a voicemail she says is from Woods, asking her to change the name on her caller ID, saying that ‘my wife may be calling you.’”

A Wake Up Call To Mothers Across The World!

The saying goes: “Behind every successful man there is a woman.” Well I believe that even behind a successful bachelor, there is a woman - a mother. Even if you look into the lives of those that have lost their mothers at an early age, there would surely be another woman – may be an aunt, a teacher, an elder sister, or a church elder who loved them just like their own. Mothers can play a vital role in shaping their children into history makers. The all important role of mothers has not changed at all over the years, but sadly, our changing culture has led to a drastic change in the way we perceive the role of a mother today.

Eight Lessons Leaders Can Learn from Tiger Wood’s Life

The epic saga of Tiger Wood’s fall from being touted as a model citizen and athletic superstar to a reckless, self-centered, out-of-control sex addict serves as a leadership lesson for all of us. The following are important principles we need to take seriously for ourselves and those we are leading. Leaders need to build their lives upon the solid foundation of good character and morals, not on gifts and abilities. You can master the art of making money but miss it in the arena of developing moral standards. This will eventually drag you down. Character serves as the wind beneath our wings carrying us into a successful future! Abilities will give us immediate recognition and possibly fame but will only last a brief period of time!

Young People – Rise Up for Jesus

What change would you like to see our generation bring about to the church and the world? I believe that this generation is a generation of power. This generation will not be one of simple believers but one of worshippers who will move in God’s power of signs and wonders, establishing God’s word. Sadly in most of our churches today the youth have taken a back seat. God’s kingdom has a lot of work in conquering nations and I wish to see youngsters rise up. They don’t have to wait till they are 40 or pass out of a bible college or have a pastor’s potbelly to joke with. It’s my prayer to see a holy generation moving with great power to bring down God’s kingdom. I am sure that God would bring the next move of revival through youngsters. So youngsters! Gear up for it!
