Serving God's Purposes in Our Generation (Acts 13:36b)

Manjeet Thaper | Cancer And The Valley Of The Shadow Of Death | Sikh Punjabi Christian

I was in good health in 2019, and then all of a sudden, I felt something was not right in my body. So I went to the doctor and did a biopsy and angiogram, and the diagnosis came back that I had second stage of cancer and needed an operation.

I knew that God was with me, and my children were strong in faith too, but when they told my husband, he broke down and cried. I told him not to worry because the Doctor of doctors is with us. I underwent the operation and was sent home eight hours after it was done. I didn’t even feel as though I had been operated upon as I carried on with my normal life. Those visiting me at home couldn’t believe that I’d had the operation because I looked so well.

Before starting chemotherapy, I had to have a bone scan done, so they put me in a box-like machine and the doctor said, “Lie straight and don’t move for half an hour. You will feel extremely hot.” I prayed to the Lord, and it felt as if someone had switched on a cold breeze fan; the half hour felt like 5 minutes.

When I went for chemotherapy, the nurse began listing out all the side effects I might suffer from. She told me my kidneys, liver or heart could be damaged and I might lose my hair. I asked her, “You’ve told me how my healthy organs may be damaged, what medicine will you give me to make me well?” She answered, “I only have to inform you of the side effects.” I told her that I have a medicine that has no side effects, and that’s the Blood of Jesus Christ.

By faith I mixed the Blood of Jesus into my medication, and I thank God, that other than losing my hair I had no other side effects such as vomiting, fever, mouth ulcers, nose bleeding and diarrhoea they had mentioned to me. I thank God, truly there is life and healing in the Blood of Jesus.

I had to undergo eight chemotherapy treatments; the last four were with a different medication. My son asked the doctor what the side effects would be. The doctor said it could leave me feeling as if my body has been badly bruised and beaten. I thank God that all 8 chemotherapy treatments went well with no side effects, other than losing my hair, which is growing back.

Then I was told to undergo radiotherapy for 15 days continuously. We did not feel burdened or tired from this but called on the name of Jesus and went each day. Before the radiotherapy the doctor told me to sign a form. I asked what the form was for. He said “that you acknowledge these possible side effects, your skin could burn, body could swell and ribs could crack.” Such a boldness came over me, I stood up and said neither will my ribs crack nor do I accept this. After the full treatment I suffered no side effects.

I thank God that I am free from cancer. I am Manjeet Thaper, I went through the valley of death. But my Heavenly Father was with me. He kept me with His strong hand. Amen.
