Serving God's Purposes in Our Generation (Acts 13:36b)

Birthday Balloons Burst And Burnt Me Badly | Sindhi Christian

It Was Just All Burn. It Was Worse Than I Expected. They Could Only Talk To Me From The Window And Through The Phone. It Was Very Hard To Sleep At Night Because All I Could Hear Was The Screaming People In The Other Rooms. They Had Been Burnt Really Badly And They Were Screaming In Agony. That Really Made Me Fear Very Much.

Testimony of Nikita Mulani

Tink’s, I’m sorry if painful memories has to be brought back but as I was preparing the message that God gave me, God reminded me of the incident that happened to you 12 years back. I told the LORD if I called Tinku and if she agrees, that means it’s from You and if she says no, that means it’s not from You.

True enough, you said Yes. Thank you.

Can You Just Relate What Exactly Happened On That Day?

So, almost 19 years ago now, August 25th I was about 12 to 13 year old then. We had gone to a family member’s birthday at Queen’s Restaurant in Jakarta, Indonesia and the room was decorated with lots of helium balloons, up on the ceiling, everywhere there would have been like hundreds of big balloons.

We had a fun time, we ate, we spoke, we cut the cake, we chatted, everything was good.

When we were about to leave, we decided to bring a bunch of balloons out and leave it out with the fire in the air. Just as we were leaving, just as we were doing our final chats and goodbyes, suddenly the balloons turned into a ball of fire and it passed through me and then it went away.

At first I really did not quite understand what was going on. Everyone was panicking, everyone was running here and there shouting aloud.

Then my dad from across the hall said, “Tinku, what’s happening to your face!”

Soon I realised that the fire has actually gone to my face. Luckily our cousin is a doctor, so she said, “Keep pouring cold water on her, keep pouring cold water on her” and that’s what we did.

The next thing I knew, I’m in the car, Dad was driving me to the hospital. When we got to the hospital, they could not really take my clothes off. They had to cut through it so that they could take it off and clean me up. The doctor said that it looks like I have to be put in a special unit for burnt victims and I would have to be there for two weeks.

POSTSCRIPT TO THIS ARTICLE AND A WARNING

Helium is not a flammable or explosive gas. Helium is an inert gas, which means that it is very stable and not very reactive. A BALLOON FILLED WITH HELIUM WILL NOT EXPLODE.

Can Hydrogen Balloons Catch Fire?

They certainly can.

Hydrogen gas, like helium, is lighter than air and will rise. In fact, it is even lighter than helium. However, HYDROGEN GAS IS MUCH MORE REACTIVE THAN HELIUM AND IS A VERY FLAMMABLE GAS.

After this kind of thing happening, why would they put hydrogen, or other flammable materials, in a balloon, especially at a birthday party with kids?

Hydrogen is generally less expensive than helium.

Helium supply is getting low. (There is a helium shortage)

Hydrogen is easier to find than helium in some parts of the world.
