PUSHPA: It was only after my marriage that I discovered how wicked and cruel my husband was. He was drunkard, a murderer and a corrupt politician.
VIJAY KUMAR: I was in politics for 14 years and I saw a lot of death and destruction. I was a political factionist and lived with bombs and guns and had body guards to protect me. During my political tenure many people were killed.
After many years of living a cruel life, I became a psychiatric patient. I could not sleep and I went to many doctors but the doctors said my brain was fine. I knew that I was actually being tormented by the devil and I didn’t have any peace, so I began to drink excessively. Finally, I thought I should kill myself. That was the only solution for me because the suffering in my brain was too much to bear. I tried to jump down from my terrace once, but my wife caught me in time.
PUSHPA: I knew Jesus Christ as my personal savior and I had faith that God would definitely change my husband, so I began to pray for my husband. Though he treated me worse than an animal, I didn’t give up my prayers.
VIJAY KUMAR: Once I beat my wife so badly with a stick that the stick broke on her. That was how cruel I was. But she was a Christian, and she was burdened for my soul and my life, and she prayed for me for 17 long years.
One day my wife took me to God’s servant who told me about the Lord Jesus Christ. I used to think that Jesus was a low caste God and that He was weak which was why He died on the cross. When they told me about the Lord Jesus and that He would forgive my sins, I couldn’t believe it. I thought how can the Lord forgive me when even being stoned to death was not sufficient punishment for me.
But I decided to begin praying. I did not know how to pray, but when I started praying, a huge miracle happened. The Lord Jesus appeared and spoke to me while I was sleeping. Early in the morning I heard the distant voice of God, and I realized that He is the true God.
I immediately quit politics and apologized to around 300 of my enemies. I apologized to my wife as I did not want any hindrance between God and me. I set myself right with God and man. All that had been tormenting me in my head, my sleeplessness and suicidal tendencies, and the violence in my mind, all that huge load lifted off me and the peace of God came into me. God saved me from my wretched politics and the bombs and guns.
PUSHPA: The change in my husband was like the splitting of the Red Sea. It was very hard to believe what I saw, but God is so gracious and compassionate in saving my husband.
