"He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not." (Isaiah 53:3)
It can happen many times. But you can never really get used to it. It still hurts every time. It can seem impossible to make sense of it... until you look to the cross. It is just a small tiny minuscule taste of what he felt, went through and suffered. Having a tiny taste of the pain gets us in touch with a small part of the depth of His love. It is just a small part though. When you feel the pain you can reflect and say, "Wow, you'd go through this for me? Why?" The answer comes in a still small voice or even bible verse...
"...that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. "
(Ephesians 3:17-19)
His love compelled him to do it. To feel the pain of rejection! It is painful and it can even seem like a foolish competition of who would do it first. The first one gets the medal. But we rejected him first. Do we feel like winners? It happened in the garden remember? It was in both Eden and Gethsemane. He never left us or forsake us but came to us in our sinful state. All because of love... Shouldn't we do the same. Keep responding in love? How does bitterness benefit? Really? We become cold, hard and miserable and for what? It is just not practical. It just adds more pain to the pain. What is the point in all that? Let's let love rule.
"I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you." (Matthew 14:18)
"Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law." (Romans 13:8)
