In April, I had attended the Dwell church planting conference in NY. One of the seminars was about raising funds for the work of church planting. The speaker challenged us to be bold and ask specific requests to potential supporters. I took his advice and decided that I would begin by asking 2 friends of mine to consider committing to give towards 7 Mile Road monthly.
This week I got to hang out with one of those friends. But get this. Before I could ask him, he and his wife gave us a card. In it was a check and a pledge to give monthly towards 7 Mile Road. Wait, it gets better. The amount they pledged per month was exactly what I was going to ask them.
Every now and then, it’s cool to get a reminder that this work is not something I made up, but that God birthed this vision and God will bring it to pass. I’m also really grateful for the grace of God and the generosity of His people towards 7 Mile Road. We who should cling to money, part with our possessions because we have found a greater treasure in the Gospel. The God who generously, sacrificially, and joyfully gave His Son provides the paradigm and pattern for our giving. May the way we give to God always be generous, sacrificial, and joyful in response to the way He gave to us.
